This academic exercise proposes the following scenario:
The property owners of the city block between N. Aurora, Linn, Marshall, and Yates Street have formed a homeowner association, with the objective, to coordinate the densification of their blocks along the alleyway inside the block. Their immediate goal is to find a way to utilize their properties more extensively. A quick look at the existing situation shows the heterogeneous and uncoordinated use of the back alley. Because of the sensitivity of the task the block association thinks, that a coordinated plan –as against a number of individual plans- for expansion inside the block is necessary to maintain and hopefully improve the residential quality as well as to increase the value of their properties. If successfully done, it could serve as a model for expansion and densification for other blocks. The problem is addressed through the implication of a common infrastructure and three scenarios of expansion within that infrastructure. The infrastructure suggests continuity within the community as well as options for separation. the infrastructure can be in filled with unlimited options, but three specific options are chosen for maximum, medium, and minimum expansions in order to provide detailed infill examples. |
